Green Monster

green monster
Here's an idea of the things I daydream about: sitting somewhere in Ojai during a sunset, with a gardening hat on planting something, cooking all day with only organic and local vegetables, always walking through a farmer's market carrying flowers, detoxing my body and never ever again eating non-food or preservatives, becoming vegan.

At least this sometimes obsessive thinking gets me to do things on my dream health list. I don't get to cook as much anymore, which means less control of the things I'm eating. My dad is an amazing cook, but not always the healthiest. A couple weeks ago I felt I was eating too many beans and sauces coming from cans, and with everyone getting sick I was searching for something to eat to pack in vitamins and make me feel a little more cleansed on the inside.

That's when I came across green monster recipes from Oh She Glows, seemed easy enough, didn't need to go to a fancy grocery store for the ingredients and I didn't need to wish for a juicer. So I went for it and now I'm hooked. I poured a little for everyone in the family and they loved it too. Maybe they won't be making it regularly, but when I make it they ask to save them some. I promise you can't taste the spinach at all, mostly it takes like a banana smoothie and depending on what you add it will take that flavor too.

This has become my new weekday breakfast and an easy way to feel a little more healthy.

basic green monster recipe
2 handfuls of spinach
1 cup of soy milk
1 tablespoon ground flax
1 banana
lots of frozen mango

As a timesaver, and since Mona and Jorge drink a little too, I make double servings now, though it really tastes best right when it's made and doesn't do too well after sitting in the fridge for a few days. And that picture above is just a couple of spoonfuls of one serving.

This is also my idea of a good time. Thanks for posting that recipe, some of the green drinks make my mouth feel funny - I'm allergic to pineapple :/ - and some have a lot in it!
